Luxica starts the adventure!

I've known there is a new web magazine about fashion and glamour photography that starts its existence.
Its name is Luxica and it seems to intend to be a showcase for the work of a bunch of very talented but not so well know photographers.
In this first issue, they feature a NYC-based fashion photographer, Daniel Garriga.
If they keep up the good work they have started, it may be worthwile dropping by from time to time.
You can find it in http://www.luxica.net/

Miss Moss’ Comeback Special

Kate Moss has signed a contract with Calvin Klein to be the image of CK Jeans on 2006.
The british top model had already worked with the american designer between 1992 and 1999. The collaboration began with a shot by Patrick Demarchelier and ended with a work with Mario Testino.
This contract ratifies the “rebirth” of the model after featuring a disgusting episode involving cocaine.
Personally, I’ve never liked Kate Moss work, even though she has been shot by some of the finest fashion photographers, nor understood her success in the fashion bussiness. Not to mention her late affair! But since I’m nobody in the industry, I guess my opinion counts nothing at all!

Links 001: Avant-Garde blog

For this very first link post, I've chosen one of the coolest blogs about fashion photography, IMHO...
In the Avant-Garde Fashion Photography blog, published by Tuna Emren, you will be able to find a whole lot of editorials published in magazines from around the world, from Citizen K to Another Mag, and both recent and "not-so-recent", as well as a few personal projects from top fashion photographers from, again, around the world.
In short, a really interesting blog, surely worth a suscription!

The erotica of the six strings

Jean-Baptiste Mondino has presented a book under the title of “Guitar Eros”, in a clear reference of the expression "guitar heros", which applies to a handful of stars of the six strings. The book' main figure is undoubtfully the “axe”, accompanied by both models and real guitarrists.
The photos are quite varied, and some of them are really interesting, like the one featuring Courtney Love, which is one of the few of the pictures that show a woman actually playing the guitar, instead of just pretending to play or posing with a guitar.
Anyway, a quite valuable book, I think. Thumbs up!

"Guitar Eros" has just been presented but is yet to be available. Nonetheless, you can pre-order it at Amazon.com

Terry loves Cannes. Sisley loves Terry

Sisley has presented his Spring-Summer ‘06 collection under the slogan “I love Cannes”. You can see the photos in the Sisley website.
The campaign features “photo-starlet” Terry Richardson, and the photos are pretty on his distinctive style, which is after all, I guess, quite logical.
Besides, Richardson actually models on some of the pictures. A week ago I was walking along one of the main streets of Madrid (where I live) and I spotted a huge advertising, covering almost the entire façade of a building, which was the picture that accompanies this article.
So I come to think... Terry Richardson seems to have reached an status of media star, even to show himself in his own photos, and even to play a voyeuristic game with the spectator, as the watcher sees the photographer shooting... Anyway, his star status is so high he plays the role often played by the models: he is the big name of the campaign.
And it is a strange role for a photographer, for the usual place of a photographer is behind the lens, isn't it?
Anyway, I found an interview with Terry Richardson in the Hint magazine website. I think it's, at least, curious and fun to read. Just wanted to share with all of you. You may find it here.

Begginings...

Just like in the Chicago song...
Be welcomed. This blog intends to be the reflection of the world of fashion photography. A world that is challenging, creative, inspiring and desirable, but that can also be discouraging and closed.
Anyway, as I said, be welcomed. Whether you are photographer, model, makeup artist, stylist, editor, or whatever you are, as long as you love fashion photography, be welcomed.
“Della moda” will be featuring news, comments and opinions and, in general, the buzz around the industry and the art. Let’s not forget photography is an art, whatever Helmut Newton said...
We aspire to be entertaining and, more important, useful. These days, thanks to the Internet, the interactivity with the reader is easier than ever. So please feel free to publish your comments and to send us your articles, opinions and thoughts.
That’s all for now. Thanks for dropping by and please come back!
